Resetting the Kwikset SmartCode 909 Deadbolt
- Keep your door open and unlocked.
- Go to the interior assembly.
- Remove the screws by the side using a Phillips head screwdriver. Then remove the interior cover.
- Remove the battery pack.
- Locate the program button—a round button on the middle of the interior assembly.
- Press and hold the Program button.
- While holding the Program button, insert the battery pack back in. Keep holding the button (for 30 seconds) until you hear a long beep and see a red flash. Now release the button.
- Press and release the program button and wait 15 seconds. After 15 seconds, you should see a green flash and hear a long beep, meaning the reset is successful.
Door Handing Detection
After the reset, the next step is to perform the door handing detection to teach the lock the orientation of your lock. Here’s how it works:
- Remove the battery pack
- Press and hold the Lock button on the keypad.
- Put the battery pack back in while holding the lock button. The latch will retract and extend to learn the orientation of the door.
Setting a User Code
- Press the program button once
- Go to the keypad and enter your new code (4-8 digits) then press the Lock button.
- You should see a green flash and hear a long beep, meaning the code has been added.
- If you want to add a second code, press the program button twice, enter your code, and hit the Lock button.
Repeat steps to add more codes—up to 8 User Codes.
That’s how to reset your Kwikset SmartCode 909 Deadbolt and set new codes.
