If your Braeburn Thermostat won’t turn on your AC and you’re not sure what to do, keep reading. In this post, I’ve explained some common reasons behind this problem and how to fix it. Let’s get started.

Update: Try the quick fix in the video below:

If your Braeburn thermostat is not cooling, here are some reasons behind this:

The thermostat may have lost power.

The air filters in your AC are clogged.

Your AC coolant is leaking.

The thermostat is malfunctioning.

Check if Your Braeburn Thermostat is Powered On

If your Braeburn thermostat is not powered on, it won’t cool your home. So, if you’re experiencing this issue, start your troubleshooting by checking that the thermostat has received power.

To know if your Braeburn thermostat is powered on, take the following steps:

Unmount your thermostat from its mounting plate. Then remove its cover.

You’ll see a red wire and a green wire in the thermostat. Detach these wires from their original terminals. Then swap them into each other’s terminals.

If the fan in your AC doesn’t start working, your thermostat isn’t powered on.

Once you have confirmed that your thermostat is powered off, you’ll need to connect it to power.

Your Braeburn thermostat may have lost its connection to power because the circuit breaker tripped off. In that case, your thermostat will power up once you switch on your circuit breaker.

To switch on your circuit breaker, move the breaker from the Off position to the On position.

The fan in your AC will start working now. Once you hear the fan working, close your thermostat and remount it to its mounting plate.

More so, if your thermostat is battery-powered, check that the batteries are installed correctly. If it doesn’t power up, replace the batteries.

Now, wait for your thermostat to turn on your AC. If the device isn’t cooling, check out the next tip.

Reset Your Thermostat

Incorrect settings or unseen glitches in your thermostat can prevent the device from turning on your AC. If your Braeburn thermostat won’t turn on AC, try to perform a factory reset to fix incorrect settings/unseen glitches.

To reset your Braeburn thermostat, press the RESET button with a paperclip or a toothpick. The RESET button is inside the hole on the front panel of the thermostat (depending on your thermostat model).

Please note that resetting your thermostat will restore the default settings on the device. So, you’ll have to reprogram the thermostat.

After resetting your Braeburn thermostat, the device may start cooling. But if your thermostat isn’t cooling, continue to the next tip.

Change the Air Filter in Your AC

Your air conditioner works by collecting hot air from your home and converting it into cool air. That said, the AC can only transform hot air if it is free of dirt. The air filter in the AC is responsible for extracting dirt from hot air.

The extracted dirt accumulates in the air filters until the filter becomes clogged. Once your filter gets clogged, your AC won’t release cool air into your room even though your thermostat sends a command.

To resolve this problem, you’ll need to change the air filter in your AC.

Follow these steps to replace your air filter:

Locate your air filter. Your air filter should be inside the return vent in your ceiling. If you do not have a return vent, check your air handler for the air filter. The air handler is the part of your AC—placed outside your room.

Once you find the air filter, take it out and study it. Your air filter is clogged if it looks brown. This means you’ll need to get a new filter. However, if your air filter is white, the equipment is still clean. In that case, you can return the filter to its original position.

Before putting your air filter back into your air vent, check the filter’s edge for some arrows. Re-insert your filter in such a way that the arrows are pointing towards the walls of the filter.

If your air filter doesn’t fit into the vent immediately, take it out. Then slide in the bottom of the filter first before pushing in the top.

Now, close your air vent or air handler.

If your thermostat isn’t cooling after you’ve replaced your air filter, move on to the next step.

Get an HVAC Expert to Inspect Your Air Conditioner

If your Braeburn thermostat isn’t cooling, the coolant in your AC might be leaking. As such, you’ll need to get an expert to repair your air conditioner.

But first, confirm that the coolant is actually leaking.

Below are 3 tests to help you do that:

Study the coils at the bottom of the air conditioner. Do you notice any ice in them? If so, the coils may be frozen. Frozen coils can make your coolant leak. If you don’t see any ice in the coils, perform the next test.

Step in front of your AC. Do you feel a gush of warm air coming from the device? If you do, then your coolant is leaking. But if the air coming from the AC isn’t warm, go to the next tip.

Pay attention to the sound your AC is producing. Does it seem like the device is hissing? This might mean that your coolant is leaking.

If you can identify any of the problems above in your AC, ask an expert to inspect your AC.

However, if your air conditioner passes the 3 tests, your coolant might be functioning properly. Go to the next tip for a solution to your thermostat’s cooling issue.

Reach out to Braeburn Technical Support

If your thermostat still isn’t cooling after you’ve tried all the steps above, reach out to Braeburn’s Technical Support team. The team will refer you to a technician that will provide a permanent solution to the problem.

Closing Thoughts

If your Braeburn thermostat isn’t cooling, check if the device is connected to power. If the thermostat is powered on but isn’t cooling, reset the thermostat. Then, change the air filters in your AC.

If these tips don’t work, ask an expert to check and repair your air conditioner. However, if your Braeburn thermostat still isn’t cooling after you’ve applied these tips, reach out to the Braeburn Support Team.

In this tutorial, which includes a video, I’ve explained/demonstrated how to change the Master Code on the Brinks Series 84 Electronic Door Lock.

A Master Code for this lock is a 4–10-digit code that allows you to program the lock. The code can also be used to unlock the deadbolt from the outside.

If you have a brand-new lock (newly installed), it should still have the default Master Code, which is 12345678 so that’s the code you want to change. That said, let’s head right into the tutorial.

Video tutorial:

Here are the steps to change the Master Code on the Brinks Series 84 Digital Door Lock:

Hit the Brinks button twice.

Enter your existing Master Code (for a new lock, the existing Master Code is 12345678, which is the default Master Code.

Press the Brinks button.

Press 1

Enter your new Master Code (4-10 digits)

Press the Brinks button.

Re-enter your new code

Press the Brinks button.

You should see a green flash and hear a long beep, signaling successful programming.

Your new programming code is now active and that’s the code you should use for other programming, such as setting User Codes, auto-lock, and other functions.

Your Kwikset SmartCode Lock may not be locking because the batteries are low, the door handing detection is not set correctly, or a User Code hasn’t been set.

If you’re facing this problem, start your troubleshooting by performing the door handing detection and then setting a User Code. I’ve demonstrated how to do that in this video:

I’ll go on to explain how to do this in case you prefer text to videos.

Troubleshooting Steps

Run the door handing detection to teach the lock the orientation of your door. Here is how it works:

Keep your door open and the door unlocked.

Go to the interior assembly of your lock and remove the interior cover. You may need a screwdriver to remove the screws by the side.

Remove the battery pack.

Manually turn the turn piece to extend the latch bolt (put it in the lock position with your door open).

Go to the keypad and press and hold the Lock button.

Keep holding the lock button. Next, insert the battery pack back in. Keep holding the lock button until the latch bolt retracts and extends, followed by a long beep.

And that’s it! The door handing detection is complete.

Next, you want to set a User Code if you don’t have one:

Press the Program button once.

Return to the keypad immediately, enter your new code (4-8 digits), and hit the Lock button.

You should see a green flash and hear a long beep, confirming the new code has been added.

Now, hit the Lock button to lock your door. It should work fine now. No more red flashes when you hit the Lock button to lock your door.

To conclude, I’ve used the Kwikset SmartCode 909 deadbolt for this tutorial. The door handing detection process is the same for all Kwikset SmartCode locks. But the user code adding process may differ slightly depending on the model. Check your user manual to see the exact steps to add a code if the above doesn’t work for your lock.

If you have any questions, send me a direct message by visiting my contact page above.
